Blistering heat continues across the KVOE listening are Thursday.
An air temperature of 102 is expected — with heat indices ranging from 104-109. Officially, a heat advisory returns Thursday for Lyon, Coffey, Osage and Wabaunsee counties from 1-9 pm.
This follows a peak temperature of 99 and peak heat index of 107 at the Emporia Municipal Airport on Wednesday — and it precedes Friday’s projected high of 99 and heat index readings as high as 105.
While the heat is in place, be sure to drink lots of water, stay in air conditioning or the shade as much as possible, move any strenuous activities to the morning or evening if that’s allowed and wear light, loose-fitting clothing. Showers and storms Friday night through Saturday break down the heat dome and give us temperatures in the low 90s for the weekend. The Saturday afternoon activity also has a marginal risk for severe weather, mainly for wind.
