The heat dome in place across the KVOE listening area since Wednesday is in the process of falling apart.
Showers and storms brought pockets of heavy rainfall to places just north of the KVOE listening area Friday night. A low-end threat of severe weather went unrealized.
Showers and storms are likely to return Saturday from early afternoon to late evening, and there is a marginal risk for severe weather for all area counties during that overall timeframe. The main concerns are winds up to 65 mph and hail to the size of walnuts or ping pong balls.
Temperatures will be far more comfortable than they have been recently. Saturday’s high will be in the upper 80s, well below the 100-degree air temperature and 106-degree heat index noted Friday. Thursday had a high of 100 and a heat index of 110, while Wednesday had a high of 99 and top heat index of 107.
Relief won’t last long, but it will return. After sunshine and a high around 90 for Sunday, temperatures will climb to the mid-90s Monday, the Fourth of July and Wednesday before a sharp cooldown to the low 80s for Thursday and Friday.
