The Emporia 16s baseball team opened play in the Topeka Scrappers tournament with two games Friday. The 16s were outscored by the Topeka Scrappers 10-9 in 9 innings in their first game.
The 16s built a 6-0 lead scoring 2 runs in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd innings.
The Scrappers would take a 8-7 lead scoring 5 runs in the 5th inning. The 16s tied the game at 8 in the 7th inning.
Both teams scored a run in the 8th inning.
In their second game the 16s were shut out by the Junction City Blue Jays 17s 3-0.
Saturday they will play Andover in pool play.
Bracket play will begin Saturday afternoon.
The 16s take are now 8-11 for the season.
