Lyon County deputies say formal charges are pending after an alleged pursuit in and around Emporia on Friday night.
Lyon County Sgt. Zach Shafer says a deputy tried to begin a traffic stop at Sixth and Prairie for an alleged traffic infraction shortly before 10:45 pm. Instead, the SUV went west to the US Highway 50 roundabout. The driver then went northeast on Interstate 35 to the Merchant Street exit, going north on Kansas Highway 99 at speeds above 100 mph before crashing in a constuction zone about four miles north of Emporia.
The driver and passenger, both minors — and both currently not named — were taken to Newman Regional Health for observation and possible treatment.
Deputies are investigating.
