Emporia Fire continues investigating after a damaging house fire in west Emporia on Saturday.
Emporia Fire was dispatched to the 2000 block of West Eighth around 11:30 am. Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage says fire was visible from the west side of the house when firefighters arrived, but firefighters got the main blaze out quickly despite being short-staffed due to three medical calls and an injury crash overlapping the fire call. Firefighters had to attack initially from the outside, before getting inside to finish the main fire and get to hot spots.
The cause and origination point are both under investigation. Nobody was hurt.
Steinlage says the interior is roughly half-destroyed, so the currently unnamed resident is needing a place to stay for at least Saturday night.
