The Kansas City Royals defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-1 Sunday.
The Royals outhit the Dodgers 15-6 and had 23 baserunners. It was the bottom of the line-up and lead-off hitter that did most of the damage.
Nicky Lopez, the 9th batter in the lineup, drove in 4 runs.
Maikel Garcia, the leadoff batter, was 4 for 4 with 2 RBI. Drew Waters, the 7th batter in the lineup, was 2 for 3 with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored. Kyle Isbel, the 8th batter in the lineup, was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Bobby Witt Jr also drove in 2 runs.
Brady Singer was the winning pitcher going 7 innings giving up 1 run on 4 hits. With 4 strikeouts and 3 walks.
The Royals begin a 3 game series in Minnesota Monday night. Aaron Cox will make his 2nd start tonight. The first pitch is set for 7:10 pm. The game will be broadcast on KVOE 1400AM/96.9FM beginning at 6:30 pm.
Salvador Preze has been selected to play in his 8th All-Star game. Perez will represent the Royals as their All-Star candidate and will be one of three catchers on the American League roster.
Perez, who will be the only Royals’ All-Star in Seattle, ranks second in franchise history for most All-Star selections, behind George Brett’s 13.
