Early construction continues on Strong City’s brand-new aquatics facility.
Work on the splash pad began almost two weeks ago. Mayor Lydia Simmons says concrete is poured and recirculation tanks are in the ground — meaning a roughly 30-day wait for the pavement to cure before most of the special features and the non-slip surface can be added. Benches and fences are also part of the overall project.
Simmons says the plan for the splash pad has been discussed for at least six years, initially as the second phase of construction for the community-built playground. She says residents are glad this is coming to life.
With about 60 days of work expected, the splash pad could be open to the area by late August.
Cost is now estimated at around $300,000 for the facility. Simmons thanked a long list of donors on KVOE’s Morning Show recently, including the Sadie Jones Trust, Trusler Foundation, Koltenbacher Trust and Miller Hammond Fund for their support.
