The man who allegedly triggered a standoff in west central Emporia last week has started the court process.
Dwayne Lamont Ford had his first appearance Monday and will have his preliminary hearing Aug. 14.
Ford, 55, was accused after a reported domestic incident Wednesday afternoon led to the apparent standoff in the 700 block of Wilson, across the street from Mary Herbert Education Center. Officers have said Ford was holding a machete as they arrived. They also say an officer fired a non-lethal round into one of Ford’s legs in an attempt to have him surrender while he was outside the house, but Ford instead went inside and remained there for about two hours before surrendering without further incident.
