A busy weekend begins Friday with a special bike ride event in Wabaunsee County.
The Rock Ridge Gravel Ride and Run is Friday and Saturday, launching from Alma. This may sound similar to the Flint Hills Ride and Run in Americus every spring, but lead organizer Bobby Thompson says this will provide a different challenge for participants.
Activities were set up for a Friday-Saturday event instead of a a Saturday-Sunday event to let 150-mile riders start in the evening, thus accounting for the prospect of hot, steamy conditions — although this weekend is looking for highs in the low 80s with storms possible.
Rock Ridge features bike rides of 30, 75 and 150 miles, as well as a 5K and half-marathon. More information is available at discovergravel.com.
