After a brief reprieve from triple-digit heat the past several days, temperatures are set to ramp back up Wednesday.
The current forecast is calling for a peak high of 101 by Wednesday afternoon. This means residents are likely to kick on the air conditioner to help keep cool.
With that in mind, 4 Rivers Electric Cooperative General Manager Dennis Svanes, a recent guest of KVOE’s Morning Show, offered some helpful tips to keep customers cool while keeping their energy costs low. According to Svanes, the power grid typically sees its highest amount of usage around 3 pm each day.
Because of this, Svanes says it is best to set air conditioners on a timer to cool down your home prior to that peak usage time. Additionally, Svanes says it is good practice to limit appliance use as much as possible between 3 pm and dinner time.
As customers prepare for the stuffy conditions, prep work is also underway for utility employees who will be out in the elements. Svanes says when it comes to preparing for hot conditions the key messages stressed to linemen include safety, safety and more safety.
Following triple-digit highs Wednesday, temperatures will cool down somewhat with highs forecasted in the upper 80s to low 90s through the weekend. Storm chances also increase as we work our way into the weekend with the best chance of showers and storms coming Thursday evening which currently has a 60 percent chance of precipitation.
