The summer is shaping up to be as busy as ever for the American Red Cross locally.
Spokeswoman Susan Faler, a guest of KVOE’s Newsmaker Two segment Monday, says the Red Cross is coming off of an “amazing” drive held at Emporia’s St. Mark’s Lutheran Church last week.
There are nearly ten blood drives scheduled in and around Emporia over the next three weeks. The schedule is as follows:
*July 13 – First Church of the Nazarene
*July 19 Emporia Arts Council
*July 19 Northern Heights Junior High Gym
*July 20 Flint Hills Mall: Hosted by the EHS Theatre Department
*July 26 Emporia Fitness
*July 27 Emporia Granada Theatre
*July 28 Leaders Save Lives: Flint Hills Mall
*Aug 3 Leaders Save Lives: Flint Hills Mall
This will all lead up to the annual three-day Badges United Blood Drive taking place August 9, 10 and 11 at the Emporia 12th Avenue Baptist Church. Faler says little will change from previous years, aside from one minor detail.
Faler tells KVOE News the drives come at a time when the Red Cross is roughly 50,000 donations lower than needed at this time of year. If you are interested in donating at any of the upcoming blood drives or would like to find other scheduled events be sure to visit Redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.
