A review hearing is coming Thursday for one of the defendants in the Jesus Avila murder case.
Alan Alanis will appear before Judge Lee Fowler at 2 pm.
The criminal cases against Alanis, Andrew Granado and Jovan Pecina were essentially put on hold last year as prosecutors concentrated their efforts against co-defendant Samuel Garcia, the alleged gunman who pleaded no-contest to second-degree murder in May and is now awaiting sentencing Aug. 9. Granado and Pecina are set for their own status hearings Aug. 21.
Another co-defendant, Armando Nunez, is serving 47 months in prison after pleading no contest last year to attempted burglary of a vehicle with intent to steal a firearm, interference with law enforcement and criminal damage.
Separately, a pretrial hearing is set for 2 pm in the criminal case against Dennis Ray Torrence. He’s charged with rape and aggravated indecent liberties involving one child under the age of 14 back in January.
Also, a pretrial hearing is set for 2 pm for Shedrick Williams. He’s formally charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated battery and burglary after an alleged incident at Emporia’s Eastgate Apartment complex a year ago.
