Storms developed as expected, but they steered clear of almost the entire KVOE listening area Wednesday.
Storms developed in southeast Coffey County after 7 pm and also formed in central Greenwood County after 10 pm. Isolated severe thunderstorm warnings were announced, although there was no confirmed severe storm activity. Eureka’s Milliken Airport received 0.33 inches of rain.
The storm activity followed a day where persistent cloud cover kept the air temperatures in the low 90s instead of near 100 degrees — but the heat index of 108 almost the projected peak of 110. Sticky conditions remain in the forecast with a high of 95 Thursday, followed by a high of 92 Friday. Storms and a marginal-to-slight severe weather risk are in the picture beginning Friday afternoon, with hail and wind the main concerns.
