Lyon County commissioners continued their conversations about the 2024 budget in a study session Wednesday.
This round of talks, including an in-person visit with Sheriff Jeff Cope and brief discussions about Aging Services and LCAT funding trends, continues early work to shape the budget for next year. Nearly all the county’s departments and allocation agencies asked for additional funding between this year’s budget and next year’s budget, with increased inflation in general and wage pressures specifically combining with potential increases in worker’s compensation and reductions in cash reserves.
The current levy sits at 57.8 mills, up 4.5 mills from last year’s final number — but it’s seven mills lower than it was when commissioners started the reduction process.
Commissioners appear set to start the trimming process as part of their action session Thursday. They will also discuss possible upgrades to the county’s website, lyoncounty.org, as well as human resources policies and an event-related closure of Road L in Allen in October.
Thursday’s meeting is at 9 am at the County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
