A man accused in Lyon County District Court of distributing fentanyl early last year has been sentenced to over six years in prison.
Lyon County Judge Lee Fowler sentenced Terry Don Cummings to 78 months. Cummings also has 36 months of postrelease supervision as part of the sentence imposed Wednesday.
The Cummings case is notable because it involves Lyon County’s first fentanyl distribution case of note. Cummings was originally accused of distributing over 200 false oxycontin pills as part of a traffic stop in January 2022. He accepted a plea agreement in May for distributing up to 99 units of fentanyl.
Separately, a pretrial and arraignment hearing is coming next month in a Lyon County marijuana distribution case.
Agustin Vargas is charged with distributing up to 450 grams of marijuana as part of alleged activity in early April. He’s also facing single counts of possessing drug paraphernalia and unlawfully hosting minors consuming alcohol.
The pretrial hearing is Aug. 18. Vargas could learn his potential trial dates as part of the hearing.
