The Osage County Sheriff’s Office says a child drowned at the Eisenhower State Park swim beach outside Melvern on Thursday night.
Sheriff Chris Wells says a possible drowning was reported just before 9 pm. Life-saving measures were underway when the call was made and continued when authorities arrived on scene, but a 2-year-old girl died at the scene.
Deputies and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks are jointly investigating.
Besides deputies and Wildlife and Parks, Osage County Fire District 2 – Osage City, Osage County Fire District 3 – Melvern, LifeSave and Osage County EMS responded.
