Water service in east Emporia will benefit from a major underground utility project beginning this fall.
The Peyton Street waterline project is tentatively set for construction between September and February. City Engineer Jim Ubert says this project continues the city’s work to improve water service and reliability from the Water Treatment Plant to southeast Emporia after a massive water main break near 15th and Prairie in 2017. It also recognizes the increasing water use in southeast Emporia.
Carlson Utility was selected as the contractor with a nearly $2.4 million bid. The project will get funds through the Kansas Public Water Supply State Revolving Loan Fund.
Ubert says this will connect the city’s water towers, moving east half a block to Peyton and south to East Sixth to connect to earlier construction between Sixth and South. Construction will resume at South and Peyton, connecting to the southeast water tower near Carter Street.
