A Texas man was airlifted from the site of a two-vehicle crash in central Chase County on Saturday.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the crash happened on US Highway 50 between the Kansas Highway 177 junction and Strong City just before 1 pm. The early investigation indicates a pickup driven by 18-year-old Dylan Eugene Chastain of Saginaw, Texas, was eastbound and tried to pass a semi truck in a no-passing zone. Chastain went into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a westbound semi driven by 34-year-old Mihail Wendt of Spring, Texas.
Wendt wasn’t hurt, but Chastain was airlifted by LifeSave to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita with suspected serious injuries. The Kansas Highway Patrol says one of the drivers was trapped but hasn’t specified which one.
It took nearly four hours to fully open the highway.
