There is a low-end risk for severe thunderstorm activity Monday.
Areas north of Interstate 35 and US Highway 50 are in a marginal risk area, while areas south of those highways are in a slight risk. Hail and wind are the main threats.
An isolated cluster triggered severe thunderstorm warnings for parts of Chase and Greenwood counties between 10 am and noon. Wind gusts of 60 mph were reported in Fall River, but there were no severe weather reports for the affected parts of the KVOE listening area Monday morning.
Monday’s storm activity comes as Evergy and utility partners from several nearby states continue their work to restore power from Friday’s damaging storms. Overall, about 12,000 outages are not yet restored. Greenwood County, which had about 5,000 outages countywide by early evening Friday, has less than 10 as of mid-morning Monday.

7 am Monday: Marginal severe weather risk Monday, heat returns — briefly — Tuesday
After a severe weather risk went unrealized Sunday, there is another low-level severe threat for Monday.
The Storm Prediction Center has a marginal risk for all area counties, reflecting the risk of an isolated severe storm for the late morning hours and again by late evening. Winds up to 60 mph and hail to the size of quarters are possible if storms develop and strengthen.
Meanwhile, another short burst of extreme heat is setting up for Lyon and surrounding counties Tuesday. Air temperatures will be around 100 degrees, and Chase and Greenwood counties are in a heat advisory from 12-8 pm with heat index readings as high as 107.

3:40 pm Sunday: Severe thunderstorm watch, Chase and Morris counties through late Sunday night
A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for parts of the KVOE listening area.
The National Weather Service has placed Chase and Morris counties in a watch until 10 pm Sunday night. The main hazards will be large hail and damaging winds.
The storm chances follow severe activity from Friday that saw scattered rain totals, various outages in portions of the area and played a role in at least one injury accident on Interstate 35. The storm chances also follow what has been a seasonally warm weekend with temperatures in the low to mid 90s throughout.
