The Emporia Recreation Commission’s Future Funding Task Force spent much of its monthly meeting Monday afternoon reviewing hundreds of responses to a recent community survey related to the future of the Lee Beran Recreation Center.
According to Assistant Director of Rec Operations, the survey received right around 800 responses in total. She says while there was varied input from the community, the task force did note one significant commonality.
The survey results were presented to the Emporia Recreation Commission as part of its regular meeting Monday evening. Gutierrez says while they now have some solid direction as to where to go when it comes to either updating the current facility or building a brand new one outright, there is still a lot up in the air, namely funding.
Gutierrez tells KVOE News they hope to have a “summarization” ready to present to the ERC when it reconvenes for its next monthly meeting in August. Regardless of what the ERC ultimately decides, Gutierrez notes it is the city of Emporia, specifically the Emporia City Commission, that will have the final say on any future plans.
