Two Emporians escaped serious injury after a crash on the Kansas Turnpike southwest of Emporia on Saturday night.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the crash happened at mile marker 99 northbound, just northeast of the Matfield Green service exit and nearly 20 miles southwest of Emporia. An SUV pulling a trailer was in the outside lane when the trailer fishtailed, causing the SUV to slide into the center barrier wall.
The driver, 37-year-old Justin Hensley, was not hurt. His passenger, 26-year-old Malia Lopez, suffered possible injuries and declined a hospital trip afterward.
