Hot, sticky conditions are still coming to the KVOE listening area Tuesday, but they may not be quite as extreme as first mentioned last week.
The current forecast calls for highs in the mid-90s for Emporia and nearing 100 degrees further south, slightly better than original forecasts noting an air temperature of 102. Heat index readings may well be above 100 degrees areawide, including as high as 105 in Emporia, but — again — the warmer readings will be to our south. Greenwood County may see heat indices as high as 108 degrees, so it’s in a heat advisory from 12-8 pm. Chase County’s advisory for Tuesday has been canceled.
Storm chances are minimal, both for Tuesday morning and again for Wednesday night. There is a marginal severe weather risk for both time periods. This follows severe thunderstorm activity in Greenwood County on Monday, with wind gusts at or above 60 mph near Fall River and Reece and trees uprooted near Piedmont — all just south of the KVOE listening area.
