Local listeners were introduced to the next voice of Emporia State University Athletics Wednesday morning.
Blake Cripps joined KVOE’s Morning Show to discuss his career and what it means to be stepping into his new role. He says this is an opportunity that has always been on his radar.
Cripps says KVOE has a “great reputation in the community” and it is a “big responsibility” that he is stepping into, however, he is very excited to be playing a major role in helping maintain the success of Emporia’s Radio Stations.
A native of Topeka and graduate of the University of Kansas, Cripps comes to Emporia after serving as the voice of the Newman Jets since 2013. Prior to that, Cripps worked at several stations across the midwest including KGSO in Wichita, Soebert Communications in Fairbury, Nebraska and KCHI in Chillicothe, Missouri.
In addition to calling games at the high school and collegiate levels, including five years of play-by-play for Bishop Carrol Football, Cripps also served as the play-by-play commentator for the Wichita Wild professional indoor football team for three years where he called two CPIFL championship games.
On top of being the new play-by-play voice of ESU athletics Cripps will also serve as KVOE’s operations manager and will officially assume his new role beginning August 7.
Cripps will be taking over for KVOE Sports Director and ESU play-by-play announcer Greg Rahe who is set to step down after 35 years in the role. Rahe’s final day is Friday.
