Emporia State women’s basketball coach Brian Ostermann announced his first recruiting class Thursday.
Eight newcomers, all transfers will join the seven returners. Ostermann says the eight newcomers will fit right in with what the Lady Hornets have returning.
Two newcomers are Division I transfers. Queen Ulabo, a 5-foot-10 forward will be a graduate transfer and transfers in from UTSA. Flera Vinerte is a 6-foot-2 center transfer from St. Bonaventure.
One newcomer is a Division II transfer. Aliyah Bello, a 5-foot-9 wing transfer from Lincoln. Bello averaged 6.5 points and 3.6 rebounds a season ago.
Two newcomers are junior college transfers.
Gracie Gilpin returns to Emporia after playing one year at Cowley. Gilpin averaged 11.5 points per game for the Lady Tigers a season ago. Ostermann says Gilpin’s time at both Emporia High and Cowley peaked their interest to get her to Emporia State.
Brooke Heiman is a 5-foot-9 guard transfer from Waubonsee Community College in Illinois. Heiman averaged 21.6 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.7 steals per game as a sophomore.
Three newcomers transfer to Emporia State from NAIA schools.
Danielle Howard, a 5-foot-9 guard transfers in from Peru State. Howard averaged 5.2 points per game for Peru State last season.
Tylieea Wallace, a 6-foot-2 center transfers in from Kansas Wesleyan. Wallace averaged 12.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game for the Coyotes a season ago and was a third-team All-KCAC pick.
Ostermann’s final recruit is his daughter, Allie, who spent the last three years at Tabor in Hillsboro. Allie is a 5-foot-10 forward who averaged 5.3 points and shot 36.5 percent from the 3-point line last season.
Coach Ostermann says it’s cool to be able to coach his daughter for her final season in college.
The Lady Hornets will report to campus this weekend to prepare for their exhibition trip to Italy scheduled for next month.
