Chances for severe storm activity are diminishing across the listening area.
With that in mind, the National Weather Service has canceled a severe thunderstorm watch that was meant to go until 11 pm for Lyon, Morris and Wabaunsee counties. With severe storm activity now out of the picture for the moment, concerns will shift once again to stifling heat which is expected to return to the listening area over the next week.
Temperatures will go from the upper 80s Saturday to the mid-90s Sunday and continue to rise into the work week with a high of 99 forecasted for Monday. Temperatures are forecasted to exceed 100 degrees for the remainder of the week with highs of 100 to 101 expected between Tuesday and Friday.

The National Weather Service has expanded the reac of a severe thunderstorm watch within the KVOE listening area.
The watch now includes Lyon and Wabaunsee counties in addition to Morris County. The watch goes until 11 pm Saturday with a marginal risk of severe weather in place across portions of the listening area.

A marginal risk of severe storms has so far led to a watch effecting one area county through the late evening hours Saturday.
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Morris County until 11 pm. A marginal risk of severe weather involves areas along and west of the Kansas Turnpike for mid-afternoon to mid-evening.

3:40 pm Friday: After marginal severe risk Saturday, heat to return in full force next week
Storm chances are low but can’t be ruled out Saturday afternoon and evening. The same can be said for the risk of severe weather.
A marginal risk of severe weather was pushed south across the KVOE listening area Friday afternoon for Saturday. If storms develop, wind and hail are the main hazards.
Once the risk of storms ends Saturday night, high temperatures will go from normal summer heat to extremely hot. Air temperatures will reach 100 Tuesday and could well go above 100 for Wednesday and Thursday. Heat index readings are expected between 103-107.
