Sentencing is coming Monday in Lyon County District Court for a man found guilty of attempting to traffic contraband into a law enforcement facility.
In mid-May, Rhett Barker pled no contest to, and was found guilty of, one count of attempted trafficking of contraband into a correctional facility. Additional charges of possession of an opiate, narcotic or certain stimulant and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia were dropped.
The charges stemmed from an incident that occurred on January 29. Sentencing is scheduled for 9:30 am before Judge Laura Miser.
Separately, a plea hearing is scheduled for Monday afternoon in the case of a New Mexico woman who allegedly led a four-county law enforcement case beginning in Lyon County over a year ago. Rebecca Estrada will appear at 1:30 pm before Judge Doug Jones. Estrada is charged in Lyon County with flee and elude, interference with law enforcement and traffic violations after an incident in late June 2022.
Estrada has already been sentenced to 10 years in prison in Franklin County after she allegedly led a chase through Lyon, Coffey and Osage counties before stopping in Ottawa back in late June 2022. Estrada also allegedly hit a Franklin County deputy with her vehicle, forcing the deputy to go to the hospital briefly, as well as two Lyon County cruisers before getting into an unlocked semi and triggering a nearly four-hour standoff that ended with her arrest.
