USD 252 Southern Lyon County’s Board of Education will be busy with two special meetings Monday.
Board members will start at 5:30 pm with more discussions about Olpe’s fitness park project. The board recently voted 4-3 in favor of earmarking $600,000 over three years for the project. Tim Bailey, Kevin Flott, Ryan Gasche and Charles Steffes were in favor. Emily Darbyshire, Gene Windle and Melissa Carson voted against it.
The multi-million-dollar project has numerous components attached. A splash pad, walking path around Olpe’s Jones Park with fitness stations and a basketball court are part of the plan, as are reconfigured baseball and softball fields and an upgrade of the football practice field into the main stadium with an eight-lane track. An early childhood center and a field house involving a community center and community weight room are also part of the plan.
The second meeting begins at 6 pm. Board members have one topic on the agenda: expectations and goals. This comes after the board’s annual reorganization as part of its last meeting and the recent change at superintendent from Mike Argabright to Ryan Muhlig on July 1.
Both meetings are at the board’s meeting room in Hartford.
