Work has started on the last main phase of geometric improvements at Sixth and Prairie.
Crews began the installation process for new traffic signal poles Monday. Traffic is being constricted around the specific poles, but there is not the full-blown traffic control noted for all directions of traffic earlier in the project. Work should last two weeks, weather permitting.
Work started in March to improve the turning radius for the intersection’s corners, as well as improve curb and gutter, sidewalks, handicapped-accessible ramps and underground utilities. Once installed, the new stoplights will also be radar-based, giving better traffic control during poor visibility. These will be the first radar-based traffic lights in the city limits.
