High temperatures are headed back above 100 degrees Wednesday.
The forecast calls for hot and breezy conditions with a high of 103 and heat index readings as high as 109.
Emporia had its hottest day in nearly a year Tuesday.
Air temperatures reached 104 shortly before 3 pm, the highest reading at the Emporia Municipal Airport since Aug. 2, 2022. The peak heat index climbed to 106.
High temperatures are currently projected to be at least at 101 through at least Aug. 1, which would mean eight straight days of highs at or above 100 if the forecast holds. While notable, that would not be the longest stretch of consecutive 100-degree days in official Emporia weather history. The longest such time period was 15 days in late August and early September 2000. The second longest was 10 days in July 2011.
National Weather Service records for Emporia date back to 1950.
