It’s officially fair time in Lyon County.
4H activities officially begin Friday, however, the fair had its traditional kickoff with the Friends of 4H Picnic inside of the Lyon County Fairgrounds Anderson Building Thursday night. 4H participants, supporters, alumni and families all gathered to share a potluck meal and highlight many of the accomplishments and hard work that has gone into preparing for this year’s fair.
Lyon County Extension 4H Agent Corrine Patterson says the 4H picnic is a great time to celebrate both the past and present of 4H.
The start of the fair comes during a prolonged heat wave that has settled over the KVOE listening area for the past week. With that in mind, Patterson says they are reminding parents and competitors to take extra steps to overcome the heat.
She says the biggest recommendation they are making is to “not stress.”
4H activities get underway with the dog, hand pet and cat shows at the Anderson Building beginning at 5 pm Friday. A full fair schedule can be found online at www.LyonCountyFairKS.org.
