If you have filled up your tank this week, you probably noticed an uncomfortable trend.
Gas prices have jumped 20-30 cents so far this week, depending on the location. AAA Kansas Manager of Public and Government Affairs Shawn Steward says the statewide average is up almost 20 cents this week, so Kansas is tied for the sixth-highest average price increase nationwide.
Steward says there does not appear to be any geopolitical unrest, which can also spike gas prices.
Local gas prices have largely stayed between $3.29 and $3.39 for most of the year. Typically, there is a price increase near the Memorial Day weekend, but that did not develop earlier this year.
Steward passed along two bits of relatively good news in an interview with KVOE News this week: Kansas gas prices are 25 cents less than the national average, and the state has the 10th-lowest prices in the nation. Kansas gas prices are also more than 50 cents lower than where prices were at this time last year.
