With the extreme heat sticking around for the foreseeable future, there are some who are concerned about what effects the prolonged conditions could have on the power grid.
As residents are no doubt using additional energy to help beat the heat, 4 Rivers Electric Cooperative General Manager Dennis Svanes tells KVOE News he is not overly concerned about the power grid’s ability to handle the additional stress.
While confident the likely increase in use will not have a major effect on the grid, Svanes noted that there are other factors that could alter the stability of the power grid.
Svanes adds that with many likely running their air conditioners around the clock in order to combat the extreme heat there are some minor changes they can make to their energy habits that can help to reduce a customer’s monthly electric bill. This includes limiting their amount of “high energy appliance use” and cooking outdoors rather than inside to avoid “heat build up” inside the home.
