Local community members had another opportunity to help a local firefighter battling cancer Saturday.
A special car wash took place at Sommers Auto Center at 2026 W. 6th Avenue. Members of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Lyon County Emergency Communications, and the Emporia State Police Department helped assist watch cars during a two-hour window Saturday afternoon.
Lyon County Sheriff Sgt. Zach Shafer says doing a car wash is different to support someone in need.
Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Tony Fuller says the fire department supports any fundraiser held to assist with the cause.
The firefighter’s name has not been divulged. Shafer says the firefighter is still handling his treatments well.
Fundraising totals are pending. This was the second fundraiser for the firefighter after a barbeque dinner was held last month.
