4-H competitions began Friday with the dog show at the Fairgrounds Anderson Building.
This year’s Senior Showmanship champion was Bailee Van Sickle of Model Boosters. Van Sickle brought Maverick, a blue heeler. She says another dog helped to calm Maverick down by his presence in the house the past few months — which helps during training.
The Junior showman champion — and the obedience champion — was Max Danler of Cloverleaf. He says obedience is important when it comes to dogs.
Danler says “it takes a ton of practice, but it’s worth it in the end.”
