A month into its existence and the newest mission through St. James Baptist Church is literally overflowing.
The Storehouse, located next to the church at 724 Sylvan Street, is a new free clothing store established through the church by Krishawn Hunter, the daughter of St. James Pastor Larry Williams who passed away two years ago after a battle with cancer. After opening its doors at the start of July, Williams says his daughter would be extremely proud of the success it has seen and the support that has been shown by the local community.
Pastor Williams says it took little time before the front porch of the Storehouse was covered in donation boxes.
The Storehouse offers clothing for children and adults and is open to the entire community. Pastor Williams tells KVOE News with the instant success of the clothing mission, the church is already planning to expand its reach by offering meals to the community in the near future.
Before that can occur, however, Williams says there are several improvements needed including a new fridge, stove and plumbing in the kitchen. The Storehouse is open every Thursday from 3 pm to 5 pm. Both clothing and monetary donations are always being accepted.
Clothing can be dropped off at the Storehouse at 724 Sylvan while monetary donations can be left in the church’s mailbox at 730 Sylvan. For more information or to set up a drop off contact the church by calling 620-342-8218.
