What was originally reported as a structure fire at a south Emporia convenience store was ultimately labeled a “smoke incident” though no smoke or flames were ever found.
According to Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Conley, crews were called to Casey’s South at 5:15 pm for a structure fire. Upon arrival Conley says firefighters did notice a faint smell, possibly burnt food, however, there was no smoke or flames found in or around the building at 126 South Commercial.
Americus and Olpe fire crews were also called to the scene but were canceled shortly after.

Lyon County firefighters are responding to a south Emporia convenience store for a reported structure fire.
Emporia, Americus and Olpe fire crews were dispatched to Casey’s South, 126 S. Commercial, at 5:15 pm. Americus and Olpe have been canceled. All additional details are currently pending.
