Extremely hot conditions baked the KVOE listening area Tuesday.
Emporia got as high as 107 with a peak heat index of 109. Eureka’s high temperature was 105 with a peak heat index of 109.
More of the same is expected Wednesday, with air temperatures around 105 and heat index readings approaching 110. Lyon and most surrounding counties are in a heat advisory, while Greenwood County is an excessive heat warning.
Pop-up showers and storms brought some rain to parts of the KVOE listening area Wednesday morning:

*South and Sylvan: 0.15 inches rainfall
*10th and Weaver: Trace
*1100 block Constitution: 0.12 inches rainfall
Showers and storms are unlikely but possible beginning early Thursday and continuing through the weekend. High temperatures will still be in the 90s Thursday through Saturday, but the forecast calls for mid- to upper 80s Sunday through at least Tuesday.
