Leading up to Friday’s Denim and Diamonds signature event, Newman Regional Health saw strong fundraising through several preliminary events — a barbecue, cornhole tournament and golf tournament.
Friday’s turnout at the main event, held at the Emporia State Memorial Union Webb Hall, culminated the fundraising while maintaining the tradition of generating money for significant equipment purchases. Incoming Chief Executive Officer Cathy Pimple says the overall goal is to give patients the best care possible.
Current CEO Bob Wright, who is retiring at the end of September, was glad to see the turnout and the underlying community support.
Cory Yowell, the cornhole tournament champion, took home the 2-carat weight diamond cluster earrings through Kari’s Diamonds and Bridal.
Proceeds will help to pay for a stereotactic core biopsy machine, offering patients a less invasive method than a traditional surgical biopsy. Totals should be announced Monday, but Events Coordinator Michelle Margeson anticipates the slate of Denim and Diamonds events should approach the fundraising goal of $170,000.
