Two weeks of hot, sultry conditions are coming to an end soon. Just not Saturday.
One more day in the mid-90s is expected for high temperatures as Emporia gets as high as 95 Saturday. Peak heat index readings could go above 100 for most area locations, following Friday’s high of 95 and top heat index of 97.
There is a good chance of showers and thunderstorms by Saturday evening through the early overnight hours, and a slight to enhanced severe weather risk is attached — with the enhanced risk essentially along and south of US Highway 54. Wind, including gusts at or above 75 mph, is the main concern with any storms moving through the area. A severe thunderstorm watch is in place for Greenwood County through 10 am Saturday.
The storms will usher in much more pleasant air, with highs in the mid- and upper 80s Sunday through at least Tuesday.
