As two major street construction zones are set to wrap up in Emporia, work continues on two other projects and is about to begin on two others.
A public information meeting has been announced for 6 pm Aug. 15 at White Auditorium City Conference Room 1 AB as the city nears the start of its annual Connecting Link Improvement Program, or CCLIP. Staffers will discuss the tentative schedule, project scope and possible impacts to traffic, businesses and homes nearby. There will be a question-and-answer section near the end of the meeting.
On KVOE’s Morning Show on Monday, City Engineer Jim Ubert says drivers will need to keep in mind several traffic changes once the work zone goes into effect.
Work also continues to replace the sanitary sewer affecting part of South Arundel Street and to repave several streets as part of the city’s Street Rehab project. Work should begin soon to repave the city’s parking lots in the 600 and 700 blocks of Mechanic.
Meanwhile, Ubert says the geometric improvements at Sixth and Prairie — including revised turning radius measurements, curb and gutter, handicapped-accessible ramps, sidewalks, underground utilities and traffic lights — are already bearing fruit.
Separately, Ubert says the city’s other major work zone, Highland between 12th and 16th, is nearly completed. Pavement “lifts” are completed and pavement striping is underway.
This sets the stage for having all work on Highland done by the time classes begin at Emporia State University later this month.
