National 811 Day is set for Friday.
The day promotes safe digging and preventing costly mistakes that could have devastating consequences.
Kansas Gas Manager of Media Relations Dawn Tripp joined KVOE’s Morning Show Wednesday to explain how 811 works.
Tripp emphasized Kansas Gas’ highest priority is safety. Once a call has been completed to 811, utility crews will come out and make markings. Tripp says residents with digging projects should respect the tolerance zone, which is the area located two feet on either side of the underground utility, and only dig within the project area.
If you smell gas while digging, act fast by calling 911 and Kansas Gas Service at 888-482-4950.
