The water main break affecting much of northwest Lyon County has been fixed. However, a boil water advisory remains active until further notice from the Kansas Department of Health aand Environment.
KDHE has corrected the affected area and the towns impacted after a water pipe broke near Roads 310 and F:
*North of Road 290 and west of ROad F
*Road D at or north of Road 280
*City of Allen
*City of Bushong
Admire was included in the original notice. The advisory affects as many as 400 customers.
A timetable for lifting the boil water advisory is pending.
12:30 pm Wednesday: Boil water advisory announced for Lyon County RWD 1 customers in Allen, Admire and Bushong, as well as north of Road 290
Officials with Lyon County Rural Water District No. 1 say the Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued a boil water notice for all customers north of Americus after a major water line break Wednesday.
KDHE says the boil water advisory affects customers north of Road 290, including residents in the Admire, Allen and Bushong city limits.
Rural Water District Office Manager Julia Langley tells KVOE News the break developed along Road F just north of Road 310 and was announced to local media shortly before noon. Repairs have started and could be completed by mid-afternoon.
KDHE says the line break caused a loss of pressure in the water system, which could lead to a loss of chlorine residuals and a risk of bacterial contamination. The advisory will be lifted once all related issues are resolved.
KDHE says customers should observe the following precautions until further notice:
*Boil water for one minute prior to drinking or food preparation or use bottled water.
*Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic icemaker.
*If your tap water appears dirty, flush the water lines by letting the water run until it clears.
*Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.
*Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled. Supervision of children is necessary while bathing so that water is not ingested. Persons with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult their physicians.
