The heavy rainfall led to one injury crash near Emporia shortly before 8 am. Lyon County Deputy Jeff Rodriguez says 32-year-old Lydia Terison of Toronto, Canada, left the Kansas Turnpike near mile marker 128, or just north of the Emporia tollgate, before her car hit a fence and several trees. She went by ambulance to Newman Regional Health for non-life-threatening injuries.
Storms, especially those that rumbled across the area between 6-7:30 am, caused a number of power outages areawide. Emporia has had as many as 110 Evergy customers offline, with scattered small-scale outages along Kansas Highway 99 from Olpe south through Greenwood County. The hardest-hit area has been between US Highway 54 and the Greenwood-Elk county line, with over 1,000 Evergy customers offline at the peak of the outage activity. That number dropped to under 350 as of 8:30 am.
