Lyon County Rural Water District No. 1 hopes to have good news from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment before noon Friday as a boil water advisory continues for most district customers.
Office Manager Julia Langley tells KVOE News testing is taking place Thursday, with samples delivered to the KDHE labs later in the day. Once delivered, it can take up to 24 hours for the state to determine whether boil water advisories can be lifted — and if they can’t, it takes another 24 hours for follow-up tests to be processed.
The boil water advisory was announced around noon Wednesday after a 6-inch main failed near Roads 310 and F, about two miles south of the Bushong water tower. The line was repaired quickly, and Langley credited Operator Jonathan Seimears for getting the pipe handled in short order.
The boil water advisory affects the following areas:
*North of Road 290 and west of Road F
*Road D at or north of Road 280
*City of Allen
*City of Bushong
KDHE says customers should observe the following precautions until further notice:
*Boil water for one minute prior to drinking or food preparation or use bottled water.
*Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic icemaker.
*If your tap water appears dirty, flush the water lines by letting the water run until it clears.
*Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.
*Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled. Supervision of children is necessary while bathing so that water is not ingested. Persons with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult their physicians.
KVOE and KVOE.com will have updates.
