The Emporia State women’s soccer team is ranked nationally to start the season as well as picked toward the top of the MIAA preseason poll.
On Friday, the MIAA released its preseason poll. The Hornets were picked to finish second behind Central Missouri. Emporia State picked up two first-place votes and are picked to finish second for the third consecutive season.
After Emporia State, Northwest Missouri is third, followed by Fort Hays State, Central Oklahoma, Washburn, Northeastern State, Missouri Western, Rogers State, Missouri Southern, Nebraska Kearney, and Newman.
The Hornets are ranked 16th in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason National Rankings released Thursday. It’s the second consecutive season that Emporia State will start the season ranked.
Emporia State is one of two MIAA schools ranked in the preseason top 25. Central Missouri is ranked 13th.
Emporia State is set to return 10 of 11 starters off a team that went 13-6-5 a season ago and made it to the NCAA Central Regional final.
The Hornets’ first practice is on Monday.
