USD 251 North Lyon County Superintendent Bob Blair says the district’s most recent state assessment data has some positive trends included.
School board members went through the data during their most recent meeting Wednesday. Blair says the district’s focus the past few years has been on individual achievement while offering a range of interventions to help students below grade-level get where they need to be academically.
Board members also discussed the ongoing building needs assessment process. Blair says early-stage discussions continue.
The building needs assessment work follows the unveiling of a 30-page study done earlier this year by G Kent Stewart, which had several potential options for the district moving forward:
*Build a new high school
*Replace temporary classroom buildings at Northern Heights High School
*Build an addition at Northern Heights
*Invite a neighboring district to consolidate with USD 251
*No action
Building needs have been a hot topic for USD 251 over the past decade, with three separate referendums between 2015-2017 all defeated.
Separately, with classes beginning Aug. 23, Blair says the summer has been busy with maintenance and upkeep. The North Lyon County gymnasium’s storage building has been remodeled, with a new weight room added at the school. Gymnasium floors have been replaced. Northern Heights also has had locker rooms replaced.
