Along with a low-end severe weather risk areawide between midnight and sunrise Saturday, there is also a severe weather risk now underway north of Emporia.
Wabaunsee County is in a severe thunderstorm watch until 8 pm. While an isolated tornado is possible, the main concerns are hailstones to the size of grapefruits, or 4 inches in diameter, and wind gusts as high as 70 mph.
Large hail and damaging winds are possible early Saturday as well.

6:45 am Friday: Sultry Friday sets up potentially stormy weekend
Increasing humidity levels and temperatures in the mid-90s have prompted the National Weather Service to post a heat advisory for area counties Friday.
Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties are included from 12-8 pm. Chase and Greenwood counties are in a separate advisory from 12-9 pm.
Temperatures could peak around 95 degrees, with top heat indices as high as 109.
Heading into early Saturday, there is a slight to marginal risk of severe weather, with areas along and east of a line from White City to Emporia to Gridley in the slight risk area. Large lail and damaging winds are the main concerns.
Sunday also has a slight severe weather risk areawide. All hazards are possible.
