The 2023 Lyon County Fair is in the books.
Once again the fair wrapped up Saturday night with the annual Smashin, Crashin and Bashin Demolition Derby inside of the Lyon County Fairgrounds grandstands arena!
The demo derby included four classes, 80s bone stock, throwback, compact and minivan, SUV and pickups. Saturday night concluded two weeks’ worth of 4H activities, grandstand events and the annual carnival.
Fire crews did have to handle a minor vehicle fire on the north end of the pit area during the event. According to Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Conley, one of the removed vehicles flared up following one of the competitions.
Crews used an extinguisher to put out the flames before they could spread. No injuries were reported.
