School starts over the next two weeks across the KVOE listening area.
For USD 253 Emporia, the next week is extremely busy — and not just because of the first official day of classes Wednesday. Director of Community Relations Lyndel Landgren, a recent guest on KVOE’s Morning Show, says open houses have already started, with open houses at Emporia Middle School last week. More open houses are coming Monday for Emporia High, elementary schools and the Jones Early Childhood Development Center.
Immediately afterward is USD 253’s Jump Start day Tuesday.
Wednesday will be a late start day at Emporia High and Emporia Middle School, continuing the schools’ tradition of late starts on Wednesdays.
Online enrollment went well, and Landgren says in-person enrollment at the Flint Hills Learning Center inside Flinthills Mall has gone well since that transition Aug. 1. Parents who have not yet enrolled their children need to set appointments by calling 620-341-2396. Parents of returning students do not need to bring paperwork, while parents of new students need to bring proof of vaccinations, physical exams, school records of prior schools and birth certificates.
Landgren also encouraged parents to apply online at usd253.org for free or reduced meals if they think they may qualify. Parents wanting information about bus routes can go online to usd253.org and use the InfoFinder link for tentative information. Routes will be finalized as the enrollment process ends.
