Two people were taken to Newman Regional Health from the scene of an injury accident on the Kansas Turnpike Sunday afternoon.
Emporia Fire and EMS and Reading/Miller fire crews were called to KTA mile marker 148.1 southbound, a mile north of the Admire Council Grove exit just after 2 pm. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2013 Cadillac SRX driven by 57-year-old Shawn Green Laney Caruso of Blanchard, Oklahoma was traveling in the right lane and hydroplaned.
The vehicle then bounced off the median wall and struck a guard rail before coming to a rest. Caruso was taken to Newman with possible injuries while a passenger, 80-year-old Frank Caruso also of Blanchard, was transported with suspected minor injuries.
Shawn Green Laney Caruso was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, however, Frank Caruso was not.
